A Dose of Random Randomness #4

- I think my department at work may have an advanced degree in Drama Production. And Stupidity. That too.

- I just finished the first whole book of short stories I've read in my entire life. Wait, maybe I'm lying. There might have been one other one. I didn't love them, but I did really like them which is a major step forward in my quest to like short stories.

- You would think that selecting a book of short stories for review would be foolhardy for someone as on the fence as I am about short stories. But why would I let reason and thinking stop me?

- I want to stop acquiring books at such an alarming rate, as in, I actually have an honest desire to stem the tide of incoming books. But then I get so depressed every day when I don't get any in the mail. Maybe I should keep getting books, open them up, keep them for a week, and then mail them back? Would that work, do you think?

- I wish I didn't live with people who love air conditioning as much as I love fresh air.

- I've been watching back episodes of Weeds on DVD. Tell me, please, where do they find this music? I finally got all the "little boxes" out of my head only to be replaced today by the disturbingly quirkly "Satan, Satan lend me a dollar." Now, there's a song I want to get caught singing in public.

- I think I'm ready for a little more randomness in my reading.

  1. I feel the same way about books. I want to stop acquiring them, and yet I'm so sad when I don't have any in the mail!

  2. I feel the exact same way about acquiring books!!! My husband is watching Weeds and loving it.

  3. I am the exact same way about books. Looking at how many are unread makes me frustrated, but when I don't get books in the mail I miss getting to open them. It's ridiculous!

  4. Add me to the list of people who feel the same way you do about acquiring books!

And the advanced degrees in Drama Production and Stupidity? Luckily, not so much at my job, but definitely at my husband's, especially lately.

  5. I second (or third or fourth or whatever I am!) that about getting books. It's insane.

Weeds? Never heard of it. Should be that our next DVD TV series obsession after Prison Break? I'm all for it if it has cool music!

  6. You've never read many short stories? Well, I'll have to hook you up with The Demo Tapes! I am not a short story fan, either, but there's something about The Demo Tapes (and c'mon, you've read most of them already) that hooks a girl. Maybe it's Trevor. Or Mitchell.

As for fewer books, when I made the conscious decision to bring fewer into the house, it was hard at first. There are still weeks when my PO Box has been totally empty and I feel unloved.

But you get used to it, especially as the TBR mountains gradually shrink.

    Hang in there!

  7. I haven't been a big fan of short stories either, but lately I have found some collections that I have really liked.

As for Little Boxes, one of the groups who recorded it were a group of five women called The Womenfolk. They actually made it into the top 100 with the shortest song ever to chart. A few years ago I actually tracked down the Womenfolk and they got together again for the first time in 40 years thanks to my nosiness.
