RIP IV Challenge

Once upon a time, when I was a baby blogger, this challenge was going on. (Click on the picture if somehow you've managed never to have heard of it or are getting a late start on it like me!) I think it may be part of what reeled me into the book blogosphere despite my never having taken part in the challenge before this year. It was so exciting to see so many people enthused about this challenge and reading all sorts of deliciously atmospheric books during a season (fall!) that seems to cry out for them. This year, I'm actually joining up.

I'm only planning to do Peril the Third which is the option that demands that only one book be read. I know myself, as many of you know me, to be a pretty slow reader, so I do like to set my goals low so that I can achieve them and perhaps actually surpass them. Carl tells us that we don't have to commit to a list, but suggests that we make a pool of reading options for the challenge.

Here's a few that I'm thinking about especially, though I do have a good few more options if these don't end up suiting me...

  1. Glad you are joining the chellenge! I really enjoyed Fragile Things and I'm planning on reading the Road for RIP too. Enjoy!

  2. It's a slippery slope; soon you'll be signed up for bajillions of challenges. ;)

Fragile Things isn't my favourite Gaiman collection, but it has a few absolutely marvelous stories!

  3. Looks like such a great list of books. I am doing the challenge too for the first time. Hope you enjoy!

  4. Oooh, what a great list Meghan!! Is this your first time reading Fragile Things?? You'll love it!

  5. Fragile Things is one of my favorite collection of short stories. It's great.
Good luck with the challenge. :)

  6. I haven't really paid close attention to this challenge because I'm challenged out right now--even planning on quitting a few I'm in now. But just to read one book . . . That's tempting. I'll be good though and stick to my guns.

I am hoping to get to The Road this year--hopefully before the movie comes out. I've heard such great things about it. The Angel's Game is in my immediate TBR list as well.

Good luck with the challenge and enjoy whichever book you choose!

  7. Thanks, Bermuda, will do! =)

Mariel - Ah, I knew I saw The Road on at least one other person's list. Must have been yours!

Eva - Ugh, I'm already signed up for a few more challenges than I have hopes of being able to finish. It *is* a slippery slope, most especially at the beginning of the year when you see all the potential for the year to come! LOL. I'm looking forward to Fragile Things, but which one's your favorite? I'll have to acquire it! =)

Thanks, Michelle, hope you have a great time with it, too!

Chris - Yup, it's my first time with Fragile Things. A friend (yay for good friends!) gave it to me, and it's just been waiting for me to get around to it. Now seems like the perfect time!

Anna - Fragile Things does seem to have a lot of fans even just counting the people who have commented on this post. I'm definitely looking forward to enjoying it! Good luck to you, too!

LF - I've been trying to get to The Road before the movie comes out, too. If not by the end of this challenge, hopefully I'll get to it before the movie's out. The Angel's Game is on my immediate TBR, too, which is probably really the only reason I let myself join up with the RIP gang. See - all ya gotta do is read that one read that you're planning on reading anyway, and you can play with the cool kids, too. LOL! You know you want to! ;-P

  8. I keep wanting to join in on challenges, but I, too, am a slow reader, and don't want to feel like a failure...I'll be watching to see how you do!

  9. YAY!!!! I so love that you joined this one! I think I put The Rapture in my pool, too (sheesh...I made my pool so big that I can't even remember what's in it). Anyway, that book sounds so good!

  10. I'm planning on reading Fragile things too, lets see how it goes :)
I have finally abandoned The Road after 2 attempts to finish it.

    Good luck with the challenge.

  11. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the books in your pool. Thank you so much for joining us this year, it is wonderful to have you as part of the challenge. Please make sure to post your link to your review of whichever book you choose as I'd love to read your review of any of these.

  12. Great list! I've been wanting to read some of these!
